Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 7 (ANI): India ecured a hitoric victory at Birmingham, thrahing England by a maive margin of 336 run to take a 1-1 lead in the Tet erie. The win marked India firt-ever Tet triumph at the iconic Edgbaton, and it came in emphatic fahion depite the abence of pace pearhead Japrit Bumrah.
Former India captain and Congre leader Mohammad Azharuddin hailed the team performance, calling the win a ignificant achievement.
The team really played well. England wa completely dominated by u, Azharuddin told ANI.
After loing the firt match, I thought India would be a puhover, but winning the Tet without Bumrah i a ignificant achievement. Bumrah i one of the finet bowler, and not having him and till winning i outtanding, he remarked.
India dominance wa pearheaded by Indian captain Shubman Gill, who produced a match-winning performance with the bat, coring 269 in the firt inning and following it up with 161 in the econd, amaing a taggering 430 run in the match. Hi effort earned him the Player of the Match award.
I congratulate the team and the captain. He (Shubman Gill) really batted well and played excellently in both inning, Azhar added.
Coming to the match, England once again opted to field firt. After getting KL Rahul (2) early, an 80-run tand between Yahavi Jaiwal (87 in 107 ball, with 13 four) and Karun Nair (31 in 50 ball, with five four) helped India gain ome footing in the match. Skipper Shubman Gill had valuable partnerhip of 203 run with Ravindra Jadeja (89 in 137 ball, with 10 four and a ix) and a 144-run tand againt Wahington Sundar (42 in 103 ball, with three four and a ix), helping India toward 587, coring 269 in 387 ball himelf, with 30 four and three ixe.
Shoaib Bahir (3/167) wa the pick of the bowler for England, while Chri Woake and Joh Tongue alo managed two each.
In England firt inning, India had them on the rope with 84/5. However, a 303-run tand between Harry Brook (158 in 234 ball, with 17 four and a ix) and wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith (184* in 207 ball, with 21 four and four ixe) ent India on an endle hunt for leather and anwer. However, Siraj (6/70) and Akah Deep (4/88) got omething out of the new ball and took down the lat five wicket for 20 run, bundling them down for 407 run, gaining a 180-run lead.
India repone wa a wift half-century partnerhip between Jaiwal (28 in 22 ball, with ix four) and KL Rahul, who alo continued hi good run with a 10-boundary-filled 55 in 84 ball. A 110-run tand for the fourth wicket between Rihabh Pant (65 in 58 ball, with eight four and three ixe) and Gill upped the attack, while Gill managed yet another epic 175-run tand with Jadeja, coring 161 in 162 ball, with 13 four and eight ixe. Jadeja cored an unbeaten 69* in 118 ball, with five four and a ix. India declared at 427/6, leading by 607 run and etting England a montrou 608 run to win.
During the run-chae, England wa retricted to 50/3. Jamie Smith (88 in 99, with nine four and four ixe) wa the only glimmer of hope for England a they were kittled out for jut 271 run, loing by 336 run, thank to a brilliant pell from Akah Deep (6/99), who ended up taking a ten-fer. (ANI)
