New Delhi [India], July 7 (ANI): The Karkardooma Court on Monday heard argument on behalf of the 2020 Delhi riot larger conpiracy cae accued Shifa ur-Rehman.
The court heard argument on the framing of charge in the 2020 Delhi riot cae in which ur-Rehman, a former preident of the alumni aociation of the Jamia Millia Ilamia, and other activit and tudent leader face proecution under the Unlawful Activitie (Prevention) Act (UAPA)
It i alleged that the 2020 riot were the reult of a larger conpiracy allegedly hatched by all the accued peron including Ur-Rehman.
A per Delhi police, ur-Rehman wa a member of Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC) and the WhatApp group of JMI Coordination Committee and JCC JMI.
Senior counel Salman Khurhid on behalf of the accued addreed allegation that ur-Rehman provided financial aid during the anti-CAA protet outide Jamia Millia Ilamia.
Khurhid ubmitted that the accued wa not a member of any uch WhatApp group in which any objectionable activity under the law wa found and that there i no evidence to how that he gave money to protetor during the anti-CAA protet outide Jamia.
After hearing the argument, Additional Seion Judge (ASJ) Sameer Bajpai lited the matter for further hearing on July 11.
The court ha directed that the written ubmiion be filed in the cae.
Special Public Proecutor (SPP) Amit Praad appeared for Delhi Police in the cae.
Senior advocate Salman Khurhid ubmitted that accued i an old tudent of Jamia Millia Ilamia.
Khurhid on behalf of ur-Rehman argued that even if the accued had given money to buy food or rain cover for proteter, thee are normal action during a protet and cannot be equated with conpiracy.
To etablih conpiracy require a meeting of mind, and in thi cae there i no meeting of mind, Khurhid argued.
The enior advocate ubmitted that no evidence wa hown by the invetigation agency on whether the accued had given the money or not.
He argued that the tandard of grave upicion, not mere upicion, i eential for framing charge.
Eighteen accued peron, including Umar Khalid, Shakeel Imam, Tahir Huain, Nataha Narwal, Devangana Kalita and other, are facing allegation of larger conpiracy in the 2020 North Eat Delhi riot.
Delhi Police have filed charge heet and upplementary charge heet againt accued peron who are booked under UAPA and ection of the IPC for allegedly materminding the riot that broke out in the national capital.
It i alleged that during the riot in February 2020, around 53 people died and hundred were injured. (ANI)
