Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], July 8 (ANI): Since the implementation of Good and Service Tax (GST) in 2017, Gujarat ha witneed a teady annual increae in the number of new taxpayer. Eight year ago, when GST wa introduced, the tate had over 5.15 lakh regitered taxpayer. A of FY 2024-25, thi number ha urged by 145 per cent, urpaing 12.46 lakh, more than double the original count.
According to an official releae, in term of regitered taxpayer, Gujarat now rank third in the country, reflecting it growing economic activity and exemplary tax compliance.
In FY 2024-25, Gujarat recorded a taxpayer growth rate of 6.38 per cent, ignificantly higher than the national average of 3.86 per cent and ahead of many other tate.
There wa a time when Gujarat, like the ret of India, operated under a complex tax tructure compriing VAT, CST, Octroi, Entry Tax, Service Tax, and Central Excie Duty.
Thi fragmented ytem poed ignificant challenge for trader, making tax compliance cumberome and time-conuming. The lack of uniformity in tax rate and regulation acro tate, coupled with the cacading effect of tax on tax, led to inflated cot of good and created barrier to eamle trade. For a buine-driven and export-oriented tate like Gujarat, thee complication were particularly burdenome.
To addre thee challenge and provide a new direction for the country economy, the Good and Service Tax (GST) wa implemented in India on July 1, 2017, under the viionary leaderhip of Prime Miniter Narendra Modi.
With thi reform, the country adopted a ingle tax--GST--for the upply of good and ervice, while doing away with multiple other taxe. Guided by the principle of One Nation, One Tax, GST ha implified the tax ytem, reduced tax evaion, and paved the way for eae of doing buine.
With the implementation of GST, the proce of tax calculation and payment ha become ignificantly impler for both trader and conumer.
Alongide the teady rie in the number of taxpayer, Gujarat ha witneed a ubtantial increae in it GST revenue.
Under the leaderhip of Chief Miniter Bhupendra Patel and Finance Miniter Kanubhai Deai, the tate regitered GST collection of R 1,36,748 crore in FY 2024-25, marking a year-on-year increae of R 11,579 crore.
Gujarat now rank third among Indian tate in term of GST revenue contribution, accounting for 8.2 per cent of the country dometic GST collection.
The releae emphaied that Gujarat ha not only conitently maintained a leading poition in GST collection but ha alo regitered a notable increae in revenue from SGST and IGST.
In FY 2024-25, the tate garnered R 73,200 crore through SGST and IGST, marking a rie of R 8,752 crore compared to the previou fical year.
While the national average growth rate for SGST and IGST revenue tood at 10.31 per cent, Gujarat urpaed it with an impreive 13.6 per cent growth.
The tate alo lead the country in the timely filing of GST return. Gujarat achieved 88.9 per cent compliance in GSTR-3B filing and 85.5 per cent in GSTR-1 filing within the precribed timeline, undercoring it diciplined and robut tax adminitration, the releae tated. (ANI)
